The world’s growing population is putting pressure on its arable land, and scientists warn 90 per cent of all soil could be degraded by 2050 unless urgent action is taken.

Some actions that can be taken to improve soil health include:

  • Making soil health a primary focus in environmental improvement policies and programs
  • Adopt regenerative farming practices including ‘no-till’ farming
  • Minimise mono-cropping, synthetic fertilisers and over grazing farming practices
  • Increase carbon levels in soils – which can also assist with carbon sequestration
  • Plant more trees to control erosion!
